It's Wednesday, May 6th: This week, builders can give their Codex agents a visible presence on the desktop with animated pixel companions that show status at a glance, search medical questions against the same clinical databases doctors pay to access through Perplexity's new Premium Health Sources, and put Claude to work on financial services tasks like pitch books, credit memos, and KYC screening with native integrations to FactSet, S&P Global, and Morningstar.

🐾 Codex Pets: Animated Desktop Companions for Your AI Agents

If you have been running agents in the Codex CLI, you know the friction. You kick off a task and then keep checking whether it is waiting on you or still running in the background. Codex Pets solves this by putting a small animated pixel companion on your desktop that communicates agent state through thought bubbles in real time. It sounds minor. It cuts the context-switching cost of agent workflows significantly.
How It Works: Open your Codex CLI, type /pet, and a draggable companion spawns directly on your screen. It floats on top of all other windows — park it wherever you want. Two states: a red clock means the agent is waiting for your approval before executing a command; a green checkmark means the task is complete and ready for a new prompt.
What's in the Catalog: Eight pre-built pets are available now: the default Codex (blue), Dewey (duck-shaped), Rocky, BSOD, and four others. The full catalog lives at codex-pets.net, where you can browse, share, and add any companion to your terminal in a single command. The community is actively contributing new pets.
Custom Pets: Install the hatch-pet skill and call it with a description: "hatch-pet create a new pet inspired by my recent projects." You get a unique companion generated from your own context. Open source under community contribution guidelines — pull requests for new pets are welcome.
🏥 Perplexity Premium Health Sources: Doctor-Grade Medical References in Your AI Search

Perplexity announced Premium Health Sources on May 5, giving users access to the same clinical databases that doctors and researchers pay institutional subscriptions to reach. Health queries now draw from peer-reviewed medical journals and clinical guidelines rather than general web content. At launch that means the New England Journal of Medicine, BMJ Journals, and BMJ Best Practice — with nine more sources including Micromedex and VisualDx coming soon. Every response includes citations so you can check the source yourself.
What's Live Now: Three sources are available at launch: NEJM (peer-reviewed clinical research and studies), BMJ Journals (broad medical literature from the BMJ Group), and BMJ Best Practice (clinical recommendations synthesized from the medical literature for healthcare professionals).
Coming Soon: Nine additional sources are rolling out: Micromedex for drug databases, EBSCOhost for broader medical research, Health Affairs for health policy, VisualDx for image-based clinical reference, plus specialized guidelines from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Diabetes Association, and Springer Publishing.
Why It Matters: More than one in ten queries on Perplexity are health-related. Until now those queries pulled from general web content — the same sources as any other search engine. Premium Health Sources changes the starting point to institutional-grade references. Every answer includes citations linking back to the source material.
How to Access: Available on Perplexity now. The feature activates automatically for health queries — no separate toggle or setup required.
💼 Claude Finance Agents: Purpose-Built AI for Banking, Credit, and Asset Management

Anthropic built a version of Claude specifically for financial institutions and it goes beyond dropping a chatbot into a bank's intranet. Claude Finance Agents reads Excel formulas natively, edits PowerPoint slides, and comes pre-wired to data providers including FactSet, S&P Global, and Morningstar. Pre-built agent templates handle the workflows that eat analyst hours: pitch books, credit memos, KYC screening, and fund accounting. Citadel, BNY Mellon, Carlyle, and Travelers are already running it in production.
Pre-Built Agent Templates: Claude Finance Agents ships templates for the highest-volume analyst tasks: pitch book generation, credit memo drafting, KYC screening, and fund accounting. Each template is tuned for the specific data shapes and output formats those workflows require — not a general prompt wrapper.
Native Office and Data Integration: Claude reads Excel formulas directly, edits PowerPoint slides, and works inside Word and Outlook through the Claude for Microsoft 365 integration. Pre-built connectors cover the major financial data providers: LSEG, FactSet, S&P Global, and Morningstar.
Compliance and Attribution: Outputs are source-attributed so teams can verify work before acting on it. The platform meets SOC 2 and FedRAMP requirements and deploys across AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure. For firms that need on-prem or private cloud, SI partnerships handle enterprise rollout.
Who's Using It: Citadel, FIS, BNY Mellon, Carlyle, Travelers, and Walleye Capital are in production. Contact the Anthropic FSI solutions team to get started.
